Brant & Cochran is an independent outdoor gear maker based in Greater Portland. Operating from a forge in South Portland, the small team hand-makes the Allagash Cruiser — a wedge-pattern Maine camp axe forged from 1050 carbon steel — alongside a small line of Maine-made hand tools. The company draws explicitly on Maine's 19th-century history as a national axe-making capital, and every axe is hand-forged, ground, and hung in their workshop.
