Gerard and Malaika Picard purchased the Maine Needham Company in spring 2019 and moved operations to their hometown of Saco, at 42 Industrial Park Road. The Needham is Maine's iconic regional confection, traced back to confectioner John Seavey of Auburn in 1872 and named for 19th-century preacher Reverend George C. Needham. The coconut and potato filling is hand-coated in dark chocolate, with flavors including Original, Maple (made with Hilltop Boilers syrup from Newfield), Blueberry (with real blueberries), Espresso, Orange, Peppermint Stick (seasonal), and the new Mini Needham minis. Sold at Reny's statewide, Sherman's Maine Coast Book Shops, Market Basket, Box of Maine, the Way-Way Store, and Saco Scoop.
