Solar-evaporated wild sea salt from Matinicus Island — women-owned, family-operated. Featured in Down East magazine's September 2025 issue.

Matinicus Salt Farm is a women-owned, family-operated saltworks 22 miles offshore on Matinicus Island, Maine's most remote year-round inhabited island. Founder Usha Beaudoin is a tenth-generation Matinicus islander whose grandfather ran the island general store; she launched the salt farm in 2020 after running out of salt while making pretzels and improvising her own batch on a wood-fired camp stove. Her partner Ryan Pelletier helps run the operation. The salt is 100% solar-evaporated in a seasonal greenhouse, using seawater pumped 400 feet up the bluff. Featured in Down East magazine's September 2025 issue, Beaudoin ships orders off the island via U.S. Mail plane.
