My Maine Farm Girl in Saint George raises a Romney/Shropshire/Icelandic flock for hand-dyed and natural yarns, custom roving, and goat milk soaps.
My Maine Farm Girl is a rocky-coast farm-and-fiber business at Saint George, Maine. The founder moved from Maryland's Eastern Shore in 2009 with half a dozen chickens and her shelter pup Sage, found a Maine peninsula property that felt like home, and rediscovered her farming roots at an Open Farm Day visit to Seabreeze Farm in 2010. The farm is named Bittersweet in honor of her son who loved animals — his middle name Francis after the patron Saint of animals. Products span Coastal Maine Hand Dyed Yarn ($24), Custom Spun Natural Yarn ($20), Plant Dyed Yarns ($28), Custom Spun Roving Bundles ($22+), Custom Spun 2 oz. Bagged Roving ($11+), Custom Blend Natural Yarn ($20), Custom Spun Natural Blended Bulky ($20), goat milk soaps and shampoo bars, and a Farm Stand Shopper bag. Fiber comes from an organically raised Romney/Shropshire/Icelandic-cross flock and is custom spun in the mountains of Maine on the oldest continuously operating mule spinner in the country.
