Near & Native operates from the Dana Warp Mill in Westbrook, where founder Martin and an all-female team of three full-time and two part-time staff hand-pour refillable coconut-soy candles with crackling wooden wicks and clean, lightly scented fragrances inspired by Maine's woods, water, and mountains. After a 12-year career in product development at Gap's Piperlime brand and Urban Outfitters, Martin started the brand in 2017 from her Portland basement before moving into the mill in June 2020. The proprietary refill service refilled over 3,000 vessels in 2023, dramatically extending the life of jars customers already loved. Sold in 50+ stores nationwide including L.L. Bean. Custom collaborations include scents for Danner, Après in Portland, and Fitz and Bennett Home.
