Wilbur's of Maine Chocolate Confections is an independent food business based in Greater Portland. Tom and Catherine Carty-Wilbur — both former school teachers — opened the original chocolate shop on Bow Street in Freeport in 1983 and began making their own confections in 1985. Their son Andy took over in 2016, leading a second-generation operation with 12 chocolatiers, retail shops in Freeport and Brunswick, and signature products including Maine Needhams, sea salt caramels, chocolate-covered Maine blueberries, and Classic Maine Mud sauce.
