Bay Bowls is a locally-owned superfood café launched in 2020 in Brunswick by Sal and Soraia Matari, drawing on Brazilian flavors and a beachy aesthetic. The menu centers açaí and pitaya bowls topped with locally-sourced granola from Grandy Organics in Hiram, plus smoothies made without ice, water, or fillers — just fresh fruit and almond milk. The company has expanded to Portland (2022), Bath (summer 2025), and Freeport (October 2025 in the former SipHouse coffee space at 32 Main Street), with the Mataris licensing locations to longtime employees rather than franchising. They're scouting Camden and Rockland next.
